How To Enable MSSQL Database Remote Connection in Plesk
Our Windows Hosting firewall blocks all external remote connections by default, due to security reasons. For instances, a remote connection is required, you will need to enable remote access by adding the remote IP address or subnet in the allowed list.

Creating a New Database
If you don’t have a database yet, you can create one then proceed with enabling the MSSQL Database remote access. Follow the step below:
- Access your Hosting Manager.
- Click on the Databases tab from the left-side menu.
- Click Add Database.
- Enter a Database name.
- Select the Database Server type “MSSQL” from the drop-down list.
- On Related site, select a domain name from the drop-down list.
- Ensure that Create a database user is ticked.
- Enter a Database user name.
- Enter a password and confirm your password.
- On Remote access, choose the option: Allow remote connections from.
- Enter the IP addresses or subnets that need remote Database access, then click OK.
NOTE: The specified IP addresses or subnets are allowed to access the Database on behalf of this user. Your changes to this list will be pre-moderated by your hosting provider.
Editing an Existing Database User
If you would like to edit an existing Database user, you can enable the MSSQL Database remote access from there. The instructions below will show you how:
- Access your Hosting Manager.
- Click on the Databases tab from the left-side menu.
- Click User Management.
- Under the Name column, click on the Database user you would like to manage.
- Edit the Database user name if needed, then enter a password and confirm your password.
- On Database, select a specific Database to connect this Database user to or select Any.
- Select the appropriate Role for this user from the drop-down list.
- On Remote access, choose the option: Allow remote connections from.
- Enter the IP addresses or subnets that need remote Database access, then click OK.
NOTE: The specified IP addresses or subnets are allowed to access the Database on behalf of this user. Your changes to this list will be pre-moderated by your hosting provider.
- Wait 10 minutes for the new firewall rule to apply.

- Click on the Databases tab from the left-side menu.
- Click User Management.
- Click Add Database User.
- Select the Database Server type “MSSQL” from the drop-down list.
- Enter a Database user name.
- Enter a password and confirm your password.
- On Database, select a specific Database to connect this Database user to or select Any.
- On Remote access, choose the option: Allow remote connections from.
- Enter the IP addresses or subnets that need remote Database access, then click OK.

- Wait 10 minutes for the new firewall rule to apply.
